A splitboard doesn’t need to cost €1.400 to be excellent. The gap between a €750 board and a €1.400 board is mostly materials and weight — and for most riders, the cheaper board will perform just as well on the mountain.
What Does Budget Actually Mean?
In splitboard terms, “budget” means under €900 for the board alone. You’ll find:
- Under €800: Entry-level construction, heavier boards, extruded bases. Perfectly rideable; just heavier on the uphill.
- €800–€900: The sweet spot. Sintered bases, better core construction, significant weight reduction vs. entry level. This is where we’d spend our money if we had a hard budget cap.
Best Budget Splitboards
Best Under €800: Amplid Kodama — From €759
The Amplid Kodama is hard to beat at this price. Paulownia core keeps it light (unusual under €800), flex 6/10, directional shape. Amplid builds for backcountry riders, not resort crossover — so even their budget boards are backcountry-first in design. Best for: first-time splitboard buyers, riders who tour more than they descend.
Best €800–€900: K2 Isolator Split — From €850
The K2 Isolator Split hits the sweet spot of the budget bracket. Touring-focused design, flex 7/10, sintered base. K2’s build quality at this price point is exceptional — you genuinely get close to premium performance for a non-premium price. Best for: experienced riders on a budget who want a dedicated touring board.
Best Package Deal: K2 Freeloader Split Package — From €850
The K2 Freeloader Package includes bindings — making the real cost comparison vs. a bare board + separate bindings very favorable. If you’re building a setup from scratch, this package represents exceptional value. Flex 7/10, directional shape, all-mountain capable. Best for: anyone who doesn’t already own splitboard bindings.
Where NOT to Save
Bindings and skins are not the places to cut corners. A cheap binding will underperform on the uphill and reduce your downhill precision. Cheap skins lose grip early and become dangerous on steep approaches. Spend budget money on the board if you must; invest properly in bindings and skins.
